Acting Mayor Aslan Receives the 5th Paweł Adamowicz Award on Behalf of Mayor İmamoğlu

Acting Mayor of the Istanbul, Mr. Nuri Aslan, paid a visit to Brussels, the capital of Belgium, on the occasion of the 5th Paweł Adamowicz Award Ceremony and the 170th Plenary Session of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR).
The fifth edition of the Paweł Adamowicz Award—presented in cooperation with the City of Gdańsk, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), and the International Cities of Refuge Network (ICORN) in order to honor the memory of the late Mayor of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz, who lost his life following an attack, and to commemorate his commitment to democratic values—was awarded to the Mayor of Istanbul, Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The award, presented in recognition of Mr. İmamoğlu’s leadership promoting unity across political, ethnic, and social differences, his citizen-oriented governance approach, and his efforts to strengthen the principles of democracy, transparency, and social justice at the local level, was received on his behalf by the Acting Mayor of Istanbul, Mr. Nuri Aslan.
During his speech at the ceremony, Mr. Aslan also read a message from Mr. İmamoğlu, expressing satisfaction that the transparent, participatory, and inclusive governance approach of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has been recognized at the international level. He also emphasized the significance of the late Gdańsk Mayor Paweł Adamowicz’s vision in the fields of local democracy and inter-city solidarity.
Prior to the award ceremony, Mr. Aslan also held a meeting with the President of the European Committee of the Regions, Ms. Kata Tüttő. Following the ceremony, he held a joint press conference with Ms. Tüttő, Member of the European Parliament Ms. Magdalena Adamowicz, and the Mayor of Gdańsk, Ms. Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, where he responded to questions from members of the press.
