Mr. Turan and Mr. Büyüksağnak Represented Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality at the Urban 20 (U20) Sherpa Meeting

Ambassador (R.) Mr. Mustafa Osman Turan, Foreign Relations Advisor to the Mayor of Istanbul, and Mr. Barbaros Büyüksağnak, Head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), represented the IMM at the U20 Sherpa Meeting hosted by the City of Los Angeles on 11–12 May 2026, within the framework of the U20 2026 cycle co-chaired by the City of New York and the City of Los Angeles.

The meeting addressed the draft text of U20 Communiqué, which is to be submitted to the G20 Leaders’ Summit to be held under the hosting of the United States, at the end of the year. Within the scope of the discussions on the draft text, assessments were made under the headings of “Affordable Housing and Homelessness”, “Climate Action, Sustainability and Urban Resilience”, and “Immigration, Migration & Human Mobility”.

IMM contributed to the draft communiqué by sharing its views and recommendations regarding the aforementioned topics. The meeting concluded with consultations on the common priorities of cities and urban issues faced at the global level.
