The summit brought together mayors and representatives of cities from T\u00fcrkiye and Germany that have sister city relations, as well as diplomats and civil society representatives.<\/p>\n<p>From Germany, mayors from Hannover, Cologne, Bremen, Gelsenkirchen, M\u00fclheim an der Ruhr, Darmstadt, Troisdorf, and representatives from Aalen, Bremen-Osterholz, Dortmund, D\u00fcren, Frankfurt am Main, Hamm, Hochschulstadt Idstein, Monheim am Rhein, M\u00fchlheim, Oberhausen, Sch\u00f6nebeck, Nuremberg and Wiesbaden attended the summit. From T\u00fcrkiye, mayors of Adana, Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Bursa, Diyarbak\u0131r, Eski\u015fehir, Manisa, Mu\u011fla, Tekirda\u011f, Edirne, Nev\u015fehir, U\u015fak and Yalova, as well as many district mayors, took part in the event.<\/p>\n<p>Opening speeches at the Summit were delivered by Nuri Aslan, Acting Mayor of Istanbul; Henriette Reker, Board Member of the Association of German Cities and Mayor of Cologne, Istanbul\u2019s sister city; Ambassador Michael Reiffenstuel, Director for Southeastern Europe, T\u00fcrkiye, OSCE and Council of Europe at the German Federal Foreign Office; Belit Onay, Vice President of the Association of German Cities and Mayor of Hannover; and Zeydan Karalar, Acting President of the Union of Municipalities of T\u00fcrkiye and Mayor of Adana.<\/p>\n<p>Kai Wegner, the Governing Mayor of Berlin \u2013 Istanbul&#8217;s sister city \u2013 sent a video message to the summit.<\/p>\n<p>Within the scope of the summit, mayors and representatives of cities from T\u00fcrkiye and Germany that have sister city relations convened to strengthen their cooperation in the context of local democracy and freedoms.
