Preliminary Meeting For The Türkiye–Germany Sister Cities Summit

A preliminary meeting was held on 24.01.2025 for the “Türkiye-Germany Sister Cities Summit”, which is set to bring Turkish-German sister cities on 8 and 8 April, 2025, under the auspices of Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu, President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (UMT) and Mayor of Istanbul.

Summit, which is going to be organized in collaboration among UMT, Association of Cities, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (MM), and the Berlin Federal State, aims to improve existing sister-city Relations among Turkish and German cities, create new collaborations, and to mobilize the potential of the cultural and economic Relations between the two counties and the cities thereof.

During the preliminary meeting, German officials headed by Ms. Petra Colmorgen, International Relations Advisor at the Berlin Federal State, and Mr. Martin Graf, Deputy Consul General of Germany in Istanbul, held consultations regarding the summit with Ms. Şengül Altan Arslan, Deputy Secretary General of UMT; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pelin Alpkökin, Deputy Secretary General of IMM; Mr. Mustafa Osman Turan, Foreign Relations Advisor to the Mayor of Istanbul; Mr. Barbaros Büyüksağnak, Head of the Foreign Relations Department of IMM, with online participation by Hon. Regine Grienberger, Consul General of Germany in Istanbul; Ms. Sabine Drees, Director of Foreign Relations of the Association of German Cities, as well as officials from the German Federal Foreign Office.
