Pop-Machina Project

GRANT PROGRAM: Horizon 2020

OBJECTIVE: The project aims to contribute to the circular economy by recycling materials obtained from waste, while also carrying out citizen-oriented work. The waste identified in the pilot region in cooperation with İSTAÇ and the Waste Management Directorate will be collected by various methods and brought into the circular economy. In addition, the Mukhtars Directorate will organize various training sessions on recycling issues for the headmen in the relevant pilot regions to raise awareness and will cooperate with citizens by explaining methods of waste collection. The project aims to support socio-economic and nutritional perspectives by dynamically involving local markets through local communities and municipalities, enabling participants to use and recycle materials to create new products with high added value using the latest technologies (e.g., blockchain, behavioral). The do-it-yourself economy provides opportunities to create new income streams for both artisans and local family-based producers.

In this sense, the project can serve as a guide for new technologies that may emerge:

  • Transactional methods for accessing goods, products, and services depending on demand
  • Common business models that include recycling, waste management, and reuse, which aim to generate renewable energy for local use (e.g., lighting street lamps, heating small homes, or powering vehicles)
  • Maker design for the creation, prototyping, and development of new products and technologies in collaborative environments (Fab Labs, Maker spaces)
  • Creating a demand-based economy that includes the delivery of products, services, and food over the internet with business models that utilize waste and technologies
