20.01.2026
The EU Relations Directorate of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) participated in the international events under Horizon Europe Cluster 6, held in Brussels from January 20 to 23, 2026. The participation on behalf of IMM included the CARE4BIO training, the Cluster 6 Matchmaking / Brokerage Event, and the Horizon Europe Cluster 6 Info Days. Deputy Director of the EU Relations Directorate, Akın Özkardaş, represented IMM at the events.
During the CARE4BIO training titled “How to Find Project Partners,” practical information was shared on consortium structures in Horizon Europe projects, partner search methods, and application procedures. The training provided valuable insights to participants, especially before project idea presentations and bilateral meetings.
On January 21, at the Cluster 6 Matchmaking / Brokerage Event /, project ideas were presented in thematic areas such as biodiversity, agroecology, bioeconomy, marine environment, and ecosystem restoration. Bilateral meetings were held with representatives from universities, research centers, and project management organizations, exploring collaboration opportunities where IMM could participate as a partner or pilot implementation site in international projects.
Notable discussions included projects aimed at developing biological corridors and living laboratories, approaches to enhance the resilience of groundwater resources, and innovative environmental projects in which local authorities can take an active role.
During the Horizon Europe Cluster 6 Info Days held on January 22–23, European Commission officials introduced the 2026 work program, call topics, and evaluation criteria for Cluster 6. The event complemented the matchmaking process by assessing the alignment of project ideas with relevant calls.
Through these events, IMM aims to increase its international visibility within the Horizon Europe program, develop strategic partnerships, and take an active role in innovative projects applicable at the city level.
