On May 10, 2020, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality was informed by the Asian Mayors Forum that the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGo) will organize the 4th “WeGo Awards” this year and the deadline for application is 31 July 2020. In this context, WeGo Awards was announced to all IMM units by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Applications from IMM were received by the Department of Foreign Affairs. A total of 6 projects were evaluated by a 5-person EU Project team. The 2 most successful projects were identified and the application was made by the Department of Foreign Relations. At the end of the process, IMM won the Gold Award in the category of “Sustainable City” with the “Inspection of Ship-based Marine Pollution with Drones (UAV) and Camera Systems Installed on the Coasts” Project of IMM Marine Services Directorate.
