A Night in the Heart of Time: IMM Welcomes the Diplomatic Corps in Istanbul at the Şerefiye Cistern

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Foreign Relations, in collaboration with Kültür A.Ş., hosted an exclusive gathering at the Şerefiye Cistern, welcoming numerous consular representatives serving in the city.

The event was designed to strengthen dialogue and explore new avenues of cooperation in the fields of culture and arts, reflecting Istanbul’s commitment to fostering meaningful relations with the consular community.

The evening began with a reception attended by the guests, followed by a captivating show that vividly narrated the 1,600-year-old story of the Şerefiye Cistern, through a remarkable harmony of light, sound, and architecture.

Distinguished speakers included Mr. Barbaros Büyüksağnak, Head of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Foreign Relations; Mr. Osman Cenk Akın, General Manager of Kültür A.Ş.; Ambassador (Ret.) Mr. Mustafa Osman Turan, Advisor to the Mayor; and Ms. Canan Aratemur Çimen, General Manager of the Istanbul Foundation.
The remarks highlighted Istanbul’s and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s prominent role on the international stage, focusing on cultural diplomacy and the future of intercity cooperation.

The program also featured a presentation by Kültür A.Ş., showcasing its vision in cultural and artistic production and event management, and emphasizing its openness to international collaboration.

The evening concluded with an enchanting concert by the Orphe Choir, whose harmonies echoed through the historic cistern, transforming the venue into a bridge between history and contemporary cultural dialogue.
