Generation Restoration

GRANT PROGRAM: UN Environment Programme

OBJECTIVE: Generation Restoration: Istanbul project aims to lay the foundations for ecosystem restoration and natüre connection in Istanbul and to make Istanbul a role model city that demonstrates the efforts and challenges of sustainable urban development in metropolitan areas. The project aims to include community participation in the implementation of nature-based solutions in order to guide the future adoption of strategies and policies for ecosystem restoration and protection by focusing on the research and mapping of bird migration routes. The project consists of 3 phases, the first of which is planned to conduct research and analysis. In this way, up-to-date scientific data on migratory birds will be accessed and a solid ground will be prepared for the project with the analyses to be conducted. In the second phase of the project, workshops and meetings will be held to increase public awareness about the importance of ecosystems and biodiversity. In addition, work will be done on ensuring public participation in decision-making processes and developing volunteer programs. In the final stage of the project, the outputs of the first two stages of the project will be evaluated and a nature-based solution (Ecological Stops) will be implemented.

Reports, social media content, workshops and seminars will be organized throughout the project, and the “Journeys for Life” initiative will be subscribed to. Journeys for Life is an ICLEI organization that aims to facilitate the exchange of information, resources and best practices in order to support the goals and implementation of the Convention on Migratory Species by creating a platform for cities located on the migration routes of certain species.
