Ekrem İmamoğlu Greets the German President at the Historical Sirkeci Train Station

Mr. Gökhan Günaydın, CHP’s (Republican People’s Party) Deputy Group Chairman at TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Türkiye), and Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul, welcomed H.E. Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, at the Sirkeci Train Station. The venue for this historic event was significant in that it was the departure point of the first workers who left Türkiye for Germany 63 years ago.
Following the welcoming ceremony in Sirkeci, the IMM delegation led by Mayor İmamoğlu held a closed-door meeting with the German delegation at the Orient Express Restaurant.
After the meeting, President Steinmeier, Mayor İmamoğlu, and Istanbul Governor Mr. Davut Gül visited the Railroad Museum and the exhibitions on the migration from Türkiye to Germany, where they were given a tour by historian İlber Ortaylı.
