PROJECT CATEGORY: Governance and Participation
Participatory Budget Implementation means the active participation of the public in decisions regarding direct budget expenditures and priorities at the local scale. Participatory budget implementation, which supports a new management approach shaped within the framework of issues such as transparency, accountability and fair allocation of resources; is a process in which citizens participate in decisions on how all or part of the budget will be spent through various methods such as proposing projects or voting.
With the Participatory Budget Implementation, the requests, demands and expectations of citizens, specifically for Istanbul, have been brought to a more professional environment and projected. In order to transform the ideas and suggestions of citizens into projects, “Idea Marathons” are organized by the Istanbul City Council, where technical information is provided to participants on how to transform an idea into a project around the themes created. IMM Participatory Budget Implementation consists of the stages of “Receiving Project Applications”, “Making Preliminary and Technical Evaluations”, “Submitting Projects to Voting”, “Announcement of Voting Results” and “Implementation, Monitoring and Reporting”.
