Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Hosted the 2nd City and Diplomacy Workshop

As a follow-up to the first event organized by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality last year, the second “City and Diplomacy Workshop” was hosted by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality this year.

The event, which was attended by 11 metropolitan municipalities including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, focused on the roles and cooperation opportunities of municipalities in international relations and was organized under the main theme of city diplomacy and internationalization.

The participating municipalities shared their experiences and good practices and exchanged ideas to develop future strategies and possible collaborations. Within the framework of the event, metropolitan municipalities presented their international projects and strategies and shared their successes and challenges with other participants. The speech on city diplomacy by Ambassador (R) Mr. Mustafa Osman Turan, Advisor to the Mayor of Istanbul, was highly appreciated by the participants.

The workshop encouraged the exchange of knowledge and experience among metropolitan municipalities, and also provided an opportunity to establish partnerships in international projects. Participants explored ways to strengthen cooperation at the global level through in-person and online meetings with international networks of which municipalities are members. The meetings were considered as an important step towards cities taking a more active role on a global scale and increasing the capacity of local governments to find solutions to global problems.
