The results of the Bloomberg Global Mayors Challenge, for which Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality applied with the “Pay it Forward – Askıda Fatura” project under the coordination of the EU Relations Directorate, have been announced.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is one of the 15 cities deemed worthy of the award in the competition in which 631 cities participated and have been awarded a prize of $1,000,000. Each city will also be provided with technical support for three years to implement its ideas.

As the world struggles to address the public health and economic impacts of the ongoing pandemic, cities can implement innovative ideas at a pace beyond the reach of national governments, said Bloomberg founder Michael R. Bloomberg, who also stated that the projects of the 15 cities that were awarded the prize are strong enough to tackle today’s challenges and can inspire cities around the world by creating successful solutions.
