IMM Participated in the Urban Summit and the Board Meeting of Metropolis in São Paulo

São Paulo, Brazil hosted the Urban Summit on 19-20 June 2024. Within the scope of the Summit, the Board Meeting of Metropolis, world’s largest network of metropolitan cities, was held. Representing Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), which is a member of the Metropolis Board of Directors and Special Representative for Megacities, Mr. Barbaros Büyüksağnak, Head of Foreign Relations Department, attended the meeting.

During the two-day event, representatives of World Metropolises participated in the Board Meeting as well as forums on topics such as Metropolis policies, Urban Development Strategies, Metropolis Monitoring, Learning and Evaluation Framework and the New Metropolis Learning Strategy. Important decisions were taken at the Board Meeting and thematic forums, which took place in an energetic and positive atmosphere.

The Metropolis Board of Directors also approved a draft declaration emphasizing the importance of world peace and prosperity and expressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
