IMM Participated in the Urban 20 Summit

Within the scope of the Urban Summit held on 17-18-19 June 2024 in São Paulo, Brazil, the Urban 20 Summit, an initiative of G20 cities, was held. Mr. Barbaros Büyüksağnak, Head of the Department of Foreign Relations, attended the summit on behalf of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, which is a U20 member.

Hosted by São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the summit addressed critical challenges such as social inclusion, fighting hunger and poverty, sustainable development and global governance reform. During the two-day event, mayors and city representatives presented several proposals to the G20 to address these priorities. These included partnering with cities to update national climate plans and creating new guarantee funds to boost urban finance.

The U20 Co-Chairs presented a statement to the G20 ahead of the summit in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024. This statement emphasized issues such as increasing social inclusion, fighting hunger and poverty, ensuring just transition and reforming global governance.
