Mayor İmamoğlu Speaks At Cop28, Calls For Cooperation In The Fight Against Climate Change

Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu attended the 2023 Climate Change Conference (COP28) organized by the United Nations in Dubai and answered questions in 2 different panels. Emphasizing that protecting nature is a collaborative effort that requires cooperation between communities, Imamoğlu said, “Istanbul has been identified as the most vulnerable city among European cities to the coastal impacts of climate change. Throughout 2023, it has experienced historically high temperatures causing severe droughts and simultaneously struggled with floods. Climate change-induced weather extremes have already arrived on Istanbul’s doorstep. While Istanbul is taking measures to mitigate the impact of climate change, we need to recognize that a broader collective effort is needed to ensure climate justice.”
